Virtual STEAM/Sugar Mill Community Forum

March 2, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

The City of Longmont is holding a virtual community forum regarding the STEAM and Sugar Mill planning project on Wednesday, March 2nd from 5:00 to 6:30pm. This planning project is intended to come up with a plan for developing the St. Vrain Creek corridor between roughly the E Ken Pratt Blvd & E 3rd Ave intersection on the east and Main St on the west, from 3rd Ave. to Boston Ave. and the railroad tracks.

Please consider signing up to join the discussion at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0lfumsqT0oHd1IP9g6CDWF63jewKeTqbZO.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

During this community forum, the project team will provide an overview of the project, present a summary of feedback to date, and gather additional input from the community. The team will also discuss the development of plan alternatives. Breakout groups will be used to have more focused conversations around:

1. Land Use & Housing
2. Transportation & Connectivity
3. Environment, Sustainability & Resilience
4. Arts, Culture, Innovation & Placemaking

When you register, you will be asked to pick the two breakout rooms that are of most interest to you, where you can engage in a conversation with City staff, community members and stakeholders, and subject matter experts.

Stand With Our St. Vrain Creek is watching this process closely and will continue to provide input to ensure the protection of our riparian areas and wildlife within the vicinity.

Specifically, we would like to keep high density residential housing away from the creek and make sure that any development in this area follows the City’s Municipal Code, which requires that development in proximity to the creek complement the natural area setting, including in terms of scale.

Additionally, we’d like to see any/all development benefiting from public funds from Opportunity Zones be designed on the cutting edge of sustainability.  This means that they would be designed and built with energy efficient buildings and with net zero carbon energy.
