Your Public Comment is Needed by August 12th!

Boulder County’s commissioners are holding a public hearing on August 12th and soliciting feedback on a proposed ballot measure to make its Open Space sales tax permanent. The language for the ballot measure currently reads as follows:

Proposed Ballot Issue No. 1. –Open Space Sales and Use Tax Extension

Extend in perpetuity the existing 0.15% countywide open space sales and use tax for the purpose of acquiring, improving, managing, and maintaining open space lands and other open space property interests.

Given that Boulder County is working with Longmont to try to build a composting facility on Longmont city Open Space, we’re asking that you please submit a quick comment in support of Open Space and permanent land protection. In particular, we’re asking the the County not to use Longmont’s Distel Open Space for a proposed industrial composting facility.

A sample comment might read as follows:

“I support the extension of Boulder County’s Open Space tax, but only if Boulder County removes its support for placing a compost facility on Longmont’s Distel Open Space property. I also urge the County to commit that no industrial infrastructure will be built on any Open Space—regardless of whether it’s owned by Boulder County or another municipality. Open Space should mean permanent protection, not development.

COMMENTS FOR THE PUBLIC HEARING ARE DUE BY NOON ON MONDAY, AUGUST 11th. Here is the link to submit your comment: https://bouldercounty.formstack.com/forms/feedback_proposed_2025_ballot_measures
